We must tackle the root causes of terrorism

THE death and destruction witnessed in London on Thursday last is a stark reminder that international terrorism is a threat to us all.

The slaughter of innocent people must always be condemned and those who carry out these cowardly acts must be brought to justice.

The war on terror, however, will not be won on the battlefields of Iraq but in the hearts and minds of people throughout the world.

We must address the issues of injustice and inequality internationally and recognise that we will only solve the problem of global terrorism when we look at the root causes of this fast spreading ‘disease’.

At present we are treating the symptoms, but if we wish to survive then we must start looking for a cure.
