Shona Murray: Ratko Mladic’s state honours in Serbia are a warning for Europe

The honouring of Ratko Mladic comes as far-right movements gain ground across Europe and international justice faces growing pressure

Serbia's decoration of genocidal war criminal Ratko Mladic at a time when the US is actively dismantling the International Criminal Court (ICC) is a depressing, dangerous concurrence.

Mladic — also known as the "Butcher of Bosnia" — died last month aged 84 while serving out his sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity as commander of Bosnian Serb forces which in July 1995 slaughtered 8,000 Muslim boys and men in Srebrenica.
