Shona Murray: Serbia's honouring of Ratko Mladic a sign Europe's post-war pact is under threat

An election in the East German state of Saxony-Anhalt, the moves against the International Criminal Court by the US and the rise of far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in France are a dangerous concurrence, writes Shona Murray

Serbia's decoration of genocidal war criminal Ratko Mladic at a time when the US is actively dismantling the International Criminal Court (ICC) is a depressing, dangerous concurrence.

Mladic — also known as the "Butcher of Bosnia" — died last month aged 84 while serving out his sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity as commander of Bosnian Serb forces which in July 1995 slaughtered 8,000 Muslim boys and men in Srebrenica.
