Both the Government and opposition seem to be blinded by short-term thinking and solutions, writes Elaine Loughlin

I returned from maternity leave this week.

Thankfully many of my fears didn’t materialise: My laptop still works; my political contacts still remember who I am; and most importantly, everyone on my team in work and at home, has survived the last five days.
