Haphazard parking a problem in Cork city

An article in the Irish Examiner (11 November) indicates a tourist claimed a tourist bus driver blamed traffic congestion for avoiding Cork City.
Haphazard parking a problem in Cork city

Yesterday at 3.30pm I drove from Ballyphehane, via Barrack Street, St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Mercy Hospital, along the quay, past the Opera House, past Parnell Place, City Hall to Anglesea Street.

Traffic was heavy, it was overcast, with drizzling rain and visability was poor.

Between Mercy Hospital and Anglesea Street, I came upon six vehicles (trucks and private vehicles) parked illegally and causing obstruction.

I can fully understand why a tourist bus driver would want to avoid such situations, which reminded me of many of the so called “developing countries” I have worked in.

Those responsible need to take action to keep the traffic flowing freely and vehicles illegally parked removed without exception.
