The budget should give back to the poor not rich

Now, with another budget in the offing the Government has proposed to reduce that most unpopular tax — the USC — by two per cent so as a result of which those earning €70,000 or more will benefit to the tune of €1,000 per annum, while those earning €35,000-70,000 will receive a meagre €350.

One would have thought that perhaps it should be the other way round.

Surely this is not the avenue towards that just and equitable society that is spoken of so regularly by politicians in particular.

Is it not a step in the wrong direction and something that is incompatible with true democracy?
