The jobless without experience need help
It’s also great to see existing buildings, like the Capitol Cinema being given a new purpose. These developments help create a more positive atmosphere in our city.
But could I suggest that the companies who are moving in to these developments could best mark the occasion by taking a few “long-term” unemployed people from the dole queue and giving them decent, paying jobs.
I recently completed a job interview with a company who are planning to move into “One Albert Quay” and was told that they were only taking on people who are “experienced” in their line of business. This is the recruitment policy of most, if not all, companies who are “expanding” in Cork.
Also why not combine “back to work courses” with, for example, the Leonardo da Vinci student exchange scheme and help send unemployed people abroad for a decent period to acquire new language skills?
Language skills are in short supply the amongst Irish.
