The horror of the elite, and much of the media, in both the South and the North, at the possibility of Sinn Féin being in government come the 1916 Rising celebrations is remarkable. With elections pending, much of the onslaught on Sinn Féin is prompted by party political considerations.

It should be noted, however, that this behaviour could lead to the negation of the Good Friday Agreement and the collapse of the fair-minded institutions which it underpins.
