On your bike - Promoting cycling

THE increased popularity of cycling is so very pronounced that it should be seen as a welcome cultural shift rather than a passing fashion statement.

On your bike - Promoting cycling

Cycling has been promoted for environmental and health reasons and has made a contribution on both fronts. With more promotion, and even more support from civic authorities that contribution can only grow.

It must be acknowledged that local authorities have helped this simple but powerful idea become a lifestyle choice and the announcement that Dublin City Council is to appoint a dedicated cycling officer to deal with issues affecting cyclists in the capital can only be welcomed. The growing popularity of the National Transport Agency’s Cork Bike Scheme is another strong argument for encouraging cyclists.
