Convenience is reason why we use the UK
Let it be said; (1) the circumstances of the death of Savita Halapanavar had nothing to do with our laws protecting all human life; the cynical manipulation of that tragedy is another matter, (2) we have a safe maternity/pregnancy service, second to none. Currently figures for abortions in England and Wales under the Abortion Act, 1967, are running at around 190,000 annually, over 97 percent of which are allowed by appeal āto the physical or mental health of the pregnant womanā, tokenly administered; in effect on the basis of āquasi-socialā indications. This is the level of attrition that has flowed from āprogressiveā legislation in the UK.
So if we āexportā the problem we do so to avail of a heartless and manipulated regime which - excluding situations of a real threat to the life and physical health of the mother - facilitates abortions, for the most part, for reasons related to lifestyles and convenience.
