‘Euthanised’ dogs are 223 fewer nuiscances

I have to take issue with the sentiments expressed in Cath O’Leary’s letter in last week’s Irish Examiner (Letters, June 9). She lamented that 223 dogs were put down in the Cork County pound last year.

That’s 223 fewer nuisance animals to excrete on our pavements and in our parks, to chase cyclists and cars and to whine and howl in the back gardens of their selfish owners who leave them in solitary confinement all day.

And these owners will call themselves dog lovers.

Those 223 dogs were the fortunate ones.

Wake up, Ms. O’Leary, to the unwanted dog population explosion.
