Crisis was not about government spending
This crisis was never about government fiscal indiscipline.
It was a capital problem — excess capital looking for a return flowing from the core to the periphery.
As David McWilliams wrote: “When Gunter and Gretel asked for their money back, they discovered they owned an Irish ghost estate and a block of Spanish holiday apartments.”
To say this mess was caused by government overspending, or high public sector wages, is a lie (being perpetrated by the ECB/Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael).
And as George Orwell wrote in 1984, if all others accept the lie, if all records tell the same tale, then the lie passes into history and becomes truth.
