Personal stories reveal why ‘yes’ matters

It is easy to forget the individuals whose lives will be transformed by a ‘yes’ vote on May 22.

Personal stories reveal why ‘yes’ matters

I have in mind two friends. The recession hit them harder than most, they have experienced unemployment, financial and medical problems and almost lost their home. However, they have come through it all as strong as ever. They’ll be together 20 years on August 15. People who weren’t even born when they first met will be voting on whether they deserves equal recognition.

There should be more room in the debate for such personal stories. What use are ideas and principles if we don’t consider how they affect actual, living people?
