Seachtain na Gaeilge is nigh and I always love to pay homage to one of our greatest writers by hosting and attending events centred around the life and works of Sean Pádraig Ó Ríordán, a native of Ballyvourney but who lived in Inniscarra from the age of 15.

I recently visited the site of his dwelling in Iniscarra and viewed the honorary ‘leacht’ erected beneath its walls. I pondered on the hours of ‘the mighty pen’ and the volume of great literature that emerged from that quiet country haven. I left his old homestead in pensive mood and rather regretful those four walls were falling into ruin. It would be great to see ‘shrines’ like this preserved.
