An incorrect depiction

I refer to your article last month (December 18), about my late uncle, Michael Sheehan, which was written in consultation with Tony Lowes.

An incorrect depiction

Lowes is quoted as saying that Sheehan was reticent about his early life. This is rubbish. He never stopped talking about his life, early and late, if anyone was prepared to listen.

Lowes suggests that Sheehan had a ‘run-in’ with the drink. This likewise is rubbish.

Sheehan lived in America for a long time. He retired in 1974 and was in receipt of an American pension, which served him well for about 17 years. He had painted, as a hobby, in the 1960s. He resumed his painting in the 1990s, but this is not as good as it sounds, as he spent a lot of his pension on expensive art material, with little return.

It’s a great pity that he is not around to refute Mr. Lowes’ assertions.
