Work with care: Workplace deaths rise

It is a cause for concern that work-related deaths were up by almost a fifth last year, rising by 17% from 47 to 55.

The percentage increase pales into insignificance when compared to the startling 87% increase in farm deaths; up to 34 from 16.

This is the fifth year in a row that farm deaths top the table and represent something just over half of all workplace deaths recorded.
