Irish are content to be servants knelt at feet of their masters

The recent letters debate regarding 1916 shows that the crumbs from the table brigade do not want the truth, or perhaps cannot handle the truth.

Maybe for this contingent acknowledgment of the truth of the Irish situation would force them to look into the minds of some the people of 1916, and dare I say it understand their motives and actions?

No, much better that we ignore the facts, as it may be dangerous. Dangerous that people know and understand the truth. Better that we accept in the face of all evidence to the contrary that Ireland under British Rule was in fact, in relative terms, a utopia.

Apparently losing huge swathes of population to famine and emigration is not suffering enough for some.

No indeed, the morally bankrupt are still with us. 1916 reignited the flicker of dormant Irish nationalism that was practically extinguished from centuries of suffering under the imperial jackboot.

Regrettably some are quite happy to be footstools, mentally subjugated.

Still, in a country that has an ex Taoiseach stating that the revolution that led this country to independence was illegitimate, maybe they should be thankful for the freedom won?

I can’t imagine the same latitude being given to ex leaders in many other democracies, our nearest neighbour perhaps amongst them.
