‘Sale’ of our oil and gas requires a referendum

Successive Irish governments have failed to expedite the development of our oil and gas potential.

‘Sale’ of our oil and gas requires a referendum

At least two oil-exploration companies are ‘sitting on’ considerable reserves of oil, waiting for global interests to ‘buy in’ (cash-in) on these energy reserves in Irish waters, while our government looks on, powerless to influence events.

Why have Irish governments abdicated their responsibilities in this crucial area and assumed a mandate to sign over control and ownership of the nation’s vital energy resources to private enterprise, not only for the period of their tenure in office, but for the period (via ten-year agreements) of the tenure of the next government (which has not yet been elected). This denies citizens their rights under Article 6 of the Irish Constitution.
