Classroom violence - Expel thugs from schools

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland has reported that teachers face a growing spiral of classroom violence, intimidation, and verbal abuse by students.

This is unacceptable and schools must be empowered to protect their staff and give every opportunity to the students who appreciate the chance a place in a decent education system offers them.

The TUI has suggested the reduction in staff numbers is at the root of this problem. This seems to blame a struggling system for the difficulties even though the responsibility for a schoolchild’s unacceptable behaviour might be more correctly apportioned elsewhere — the child’s parents.
