High Court injunction - Strike chaos is averted

For thousands of air passengers and a small army of Government ministers planning to fly out to celebrate the national feast day with emigrants, the High Court has waved something of a magic wand.

By granting an injunction to the Dublin Airport Authority, plus Ryanair, it has effectively prevented Siptu from staging a four-hour strike tomorrow.

The strike would have hit flights at Dublin, crippling Cork and Shannon airports into the bargain. Besides the predicted loss of millions, the journeys of thousands of travellers would end in chaos.

There is an onus on all sides to resolve the long-running dispute over pensions by engaging in meaningful negotiations. Ireland needs an air strike like a hole in the head.
