Miley, Rihanna are still my role models

CELEBRITIES are the most watched and idolised people. Whether you are a Rihanna, One Direction, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga or Miley Cyrus fan, it’s a common thing now that you might want to do what your idol does. But does that mean these people are ‘role models’ because they are in the public?

Miley, Rihanna are still my role models

I’m not going to trash people who do what their idol does, I mean I went through a phase where I only shopped in Jack Wills and Abercrombie because One Direction had clothes from there (this phase still hasn’t stopped!), so I do get where people come from.

Take Zayn Malik from 1D, for example. When we, the fans, found out he was a smoker there was a mix of outrage and ‘sure it is his life’. I can understand where the outrage came from: smoking is disgusting, it kills etc, but I did get annoyed when people claimed smoking in teenagers increased because Zayn was smoking. Yes I get it’s wrong, but who are we to stop him? To the people who will say they started smoking because they wanted to be cool like Zayn, clearly you aren’t clued in, because even though I get you want to be closer to the band, smoking to be like Zayn is a bit weird and creepy.

Rihanna and Miley Cyrus are two women that loads of young women look up to. They are both known for their ‘outfit choices’. Rihanna is always known for her crazy offstage behaviour, smoking marijuana, dancing provocatively and well pretty much anything else that would upset any over-protective parent.

To the people criticising her and hating on her, I’m sure she said she didn’t ask to be a role model and that she is her own person and, to be honest, I think the way she sticks to her motives and doesn’t change for the public is a bit admirable.

Same with Miley, she’s trying to find herself as a person. Whether she is half naked or fully clothed, I still respect her for the fact she’s not afraid to stand up to people; she’s not afraid to be who she wants to be and, even more admirably, she’s non-stop involved with charities.

It’s sad that people take the time to give out and moan about how youngsters shouldn’t be obsessed with these sort of people.

But, as I say to my father, would he rather me out, taking drugs, getting pregnant and never coming home, or would he rather I sit up watching my favourite bands videos, listening to their music, etc?

If we keep having these outrageous high expectations for celebrities, nobody will be able to fit the bill as ‘perfect’.
