Invasive species - Mink scheme succeeding
Waterways struggle with the impact of plants that fundamentally change the character of our lakes and rivers. Ground-nesting birds and smaller mammal populations suffer the consequences of the naive and misguided “liberation” of mink for fur farms. The list goes on and on.
The news that the mink population, one of the targets of a six-year campaign by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, has been reduced is very welcome. This American import has no place in our countryside and it has done tremendous damage. Those who would remove it deserve our full and practical support.
