Circus being directed from the monkey cage

We all know that gardaí and judges are prepared to make motorists’ lives miserable because they might possibly, maybe, some time cause an accident.

On the other hand, the thousands of people who actually have accidents every year are ignored. We know that justice never obliges criminals to compensate victims, only “to pay their debt to society” or some such inanity. We know that innocent people, including the victims, are forced to pay taxes for the lives of prisoners, which are often better than those of the victims.

We know that criminals with 20, 30, 40, or even 80 convictions walk freely on the streets ready to commit more crimes, while many innocent citizens are afraid to leave their houses after dark. I have read that many people who physically abused children were simply transferred.

We have heard now that Savita Halappanavar possibly need not have died. We also all know by now that, even if it was not simply down to more medical incompetence, there will be no justice from this laughable system.

It reminds me of HL Mencken’s observation about government being nothing better than the circus being directed from the monkey cage.

My deepest sympathies are with her husband, who is behaving with far more dignity than I might have done if I thought the monkeys might have killed my loved one.
