Generic drug deal - Scandalous health waste

The Sunday Business Post report that the HSE is paying up to 12 times more for some generic drugs than Britain’s NHS is more than infuriating.

Generic drug deal - Scandalous health waste

A deal sanctioned by the Department of Health just two years ago means that savings anticipated in the State’s €1bn drugs bill may not be realised. The deal allows drug manufacturers to charge up to 98% of the price of branded drugs for generic drugs.

This is mismanagement on a grand scale and shows an indifference to public resources that is mind boggling, especially at the very moment we are obliged to curtail health services because we can no longer afford them.
