Planning major concern for rural families

Where low-cost sites are available in rural areas, local authorities should recognise the security benefits of families living close to elderly relatives when considering planning permission.

Planning major concern for rural families

Planning remains a major concern for rural families.

In many parts of Ireland, I have had cases of people from a rural background being pressurised into moving to a town, with the result that another name is added to the housing list of that local authority.

People with a rural background must be given a chance to retain their connections to their home places.

With a little relaxation of the planning regulations, I am hopeful that situation, particularly on security matters, can addressed. With the closing of Garda stations, a community garda has been appointed in some areas.

To build on the success of that scheme, I would suggest that if a garda and his family are prepared to set up home in a rural area, planning laws should be relaxed for them do to so.
