The lamentable and soulless performance of the Irish rugby team against England at Twickenham on St Patrick’s Day surely raises the question of the importance of the Irish national anthem on game day.

It is a well known fact that the vast majority of the team highly resent the dictat from the Irish Rugby Football Union which forbids them from singing their national anthem on away games such as at Twickenham last weekend.

One look at their faces in the pre-match line up of the so-called anthem surely demonstrates this.
