Paying the price for reckless hospital proposal
In asking the question as to why “such a proposal ... was made in the first place” and whether “its backers imagined they would be exempt from the rules” you get to the core of why we are where we are.
The people in charge of our most powerful institutions have shown arrogance and recklessness, and among other things, defied the regulatory authorities. As a consequence they have bankrupted the country. The people behind the children’s hospital plan, in also seeking to defy the regulatory authorities, have shown the same arrogance and recklessness. In both cases, the ordinary people of this country are going to be paying the cost for some time to come.
