THE upcoming amalgamation of city and county in Limerick is a wonderful opportunity.

The new combined offices should be in the county offices which have better parking and have all the departments in a very convenient position.

The opportunity is with the civic offices which can be transformed into theatres, music spaces, exhibition spaces, museums of childhood, a maritime and docks museum, and café/restaurant. this could be a major income earner for the city and county, a tourist attraction and would reduce business rates in the city.

There would be many employment opportunities which could be filled by present employees.

This would greatly reduce the labour costs in the councils as the ventures could be self-financing.
