Scrap your old car before it’s too late

IF the scrappage scheme is abandoned at the end of the month it will mean we will have an environmental disaster on our hands.

Instead of people scrapping their cars at dealerships around the country, cars will be scrapped at the side of the road by selling them unwittingly to joy riders who will burn them out and leave local authorities paying millions to clean up the mess. There is still time to scrap your old car and avoid all of this:

* The car must be exactly 10 years old or over.

* You need a current NCT for some reason.

* A current tax disc.

* Two years proof of insurance.

* Vehicle registration revenue document, or old style tax booklet.

* Buy a car within CO2 emissions bands A & B.

If you jump all these fences, you will save yourself a fortune on tax, insurance, the price or a new vehicle, protect jobs, and save us all from an environmental disaster. So, hurry, the scheme runs out at midnight on June 30, or if you cannot make it on time, lobby the Ministers for Transport and Environment to keep the successful scheme permanently.
