Mladic arrested - A decade too late

RATKO MLADIC’S arrest is welcome but it comes more than a decade too late.

He should have faced justice years ago and would have done so had he not been protected in his home country where he is still regarded as a hero by a considerable minority.

He was the brutal military leader of the Bosnian Serbs during the country’s 1992-1995 war and enforced Radovan Karadzic’s vision of an ethnically pure Greater Serbia. Just like Germany’s Nazi’s half a century before, he believed a person right to life depended on their origin or religion.

Mladic was implicated in genocide during the siege of Sarajevo, which killed some 12,000 people, and in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslims. If a trial confirms this, he should spend the rest of his life in jail.
