Our beautiful town has been ruined
It seemed to start with the knocking of the town wall on the Dundrum Road to build a housing estate. There’s also the building at the lower gate which has no bearing to the rest of the street in structure or building material, and has ruined the sight line of the now closed Main Street.
At the entrance to Dominic Street from Main Street, a building was knocked down (formally Feehans) and replaced with a ’70s style office block not in keeping with the area.
The Dominic Abbey apartments and public house development is now closed.
The eyesore which dominates the town and the Rock on the Dublin road (formerly The Motel) is also now closed ... need I say more?
And now the latest: There were extra slip roads put into Exit 8 (southbound) at great expense.
Does the taxpayer have to pay for these roads to allow for this development? It was always my opinion that the bypass of Cashel should have been to the east of the town, thus bringing the visual aspect of the Rock to the people on the road as it always was. Too late now, but it is not too late to stop yet another eyesore. Is the famous Rock, which is now hidden from vision from the motorway, to be replaced by the McDonalds ‘M’ and Topaz signs? This is a town which refused planning permission many years ago for a theme park, which I believe was tastefully designed and its greatest asset and benefit was linking the Rock to the town.
Where are all the old custodians of the town gone?
These developments would not have happened under their watch and it is disgraceful to pass on to the next generation a beautiful town which we all love, ruined by ignorance and greed.
