IT is wonderful to have something to celebrate but it is even more wonderful to have something cheering to celebrate it with.

Derval O’Rourke’s silver medal at Barcelona’s European Athletics Championships was a wonderful achievement we can all take pride in. However, her remarks about how elite athletes are supported in Ireland have a familiar ring and must be considered.

Derval O’Rourke’s international success was not the only one we can celebrate today. Irish Distillers have just won 15 gold medals at the British-based International Spirits Challenge 2010.
