Simplistic analysis

I TAKE issue with the rather simplistic analysis of suicide offered by Eamon Reilly (Letters, May 5).

Simplistic analysis

The suggestion that it was less prevalent in decades past strikes me as erroneous.

Many things went unreported decades ago when people were judged on their perceived respectability against that of “the Jones’s”. A suicide in the family would have inflicted great shame, as Catholic doctrine states that such a person is hell-bound for committing a mortal sin.

Just because an incident was not reported did not necessarily mean it did not happen.
