Measuring energy
I’m a chartered electrical engineer but I have no idea what this means, and neither do my colleagues. Energy is measured in kilowatt-hours and power in watts or kilowatts, which everyone understands because that is how electrical energy is sold and that is how electrical appliances are rated. Why does the media patronise and confuse people with loony units of measurement such as the height of Nelson’s column, the area of Manhattan island and the weight of fridges (used for crocodiles)?
