Bonus points

THE Irish Examiner showed great courage in exposing the disgracefully high earnings of semi-state chief executives (September 15).

I wonder how many of these were political appointments. It would be interesting to know whether the figures included a performance bonus.

It is unlikely we will ever know if any such bonuses were paid for excellence under these headings: product or service improvement, reduction of product cost, innovation, productivity, profitability. We are badly served by semi-state organisations and quangos.
