Friendly voice means a lot to the homeless

AS I was walking on Fr Matthew Street in Cork recently I once again came across a homeless man sleeping rough in appalling conditions.

Friendly voice means a lot to the homeless

It made me feel sad and guilty that so many people are sleeping rough.

With so many empty houses all over the country, I think it’s not good enough in this day and age, and our Government should do something about it.

I stopped and spoke with this man and helped him in some very small way because homeless people hold something very close in my heart.

I would ask other people to stop and also help them if they can, as even to say hello can often mean so much to them.

Last October my own modest effort raised €15,700 at the Dublin City Marathon for the Simon Community in Cork.

I offer this purely as an indication of what one ordinary person can do and in the hope that you might help too in whatever way you can.
