Futility of war

WHILE reading Joyce Anderson Gleasure’s response (July 8) to my letter of June 24, my first thought was of a point- by-point rebuttal. But after a second reading I realised it would be futile.

Here is an American who thinks we did not do enough to win the war in Vietnam. In reality, we unleashed every weapon available to the US military except one.

Millions of Vietnamese and more than 58,000 US soldiers died, but it seems Ms Gleasure somehow thinks that, politically, it was all worthwhile. On that basis, people who share President George W Bush’s world view should have no problem with Iraq, with the comparatively smaller casualty numbers.
