High-temperature warning issued for Leinster and Tipperary as mercury hits 29C

Met Éireann has issued a high temperature warning for Leinster and Tipperary, as temperatures are set to hit highs of around 29C this week.

The warning is in place for all of Leinster and Tipperary from 6am on Wednesday until 6am on Friday.

The forecaster has warned that maximum temperatures will be in excess of 27C, combined with night-time lows "in excess of 15C".

Met Éireann also warned of potential water safety issues due to increased use of beaches, lakes and rivers.

The forecaster also warned of uncomfortable sleeping conditions, heat stress and potential animal welfare issues.

This comes as temperatures could climb to as high as 29C over the coming days, with Met Éireann forecasting warm or very warm conditions.

The national forecaster said this week will be warm or hot, with humid conditions for a time, and that rain can be expected in some parts of the country.

Temperatures to reach 29C 

Tuesday will be warm or very warm and dry for most, with spells of sunshine, but it will be cloudier in parts of Connacht and west Munster, with just a few spots of light rain or drizzle in parts.

Highest temperatures will range from 22C to 27C, and it will be generally warmest in the east and midlands, though a little lower under the cloudier skies of the southwest and west.

Winds will be mostly light to moderate southerly, becoming a little fresher for a time along parts of the west coast.

According to the forecaster, Wednesday will be a humid and very warm or even hot day, with highest temperatures generally ranging from 23C to 28C or 29C, with the highest temperatures in Leinster.

Temperatures will be a little lower in some coastal parts of the west and southwest, ranging from around 20C to 23C.

It is expected that the warm weather will continue into Thursday across most of the country, with the exception of the west and northwest.

Cooler conditions expected for weekend 

Current indications from the forecaster suggest the weekend will be slightly cooler, with temperatures falling back to close to average.
