Greens copy FF tactics in having it both ways on Lisbon Treaty result

WHAT was the point of your editorial (‘It’s time for the Greens to grow up’, January 21) taking the party to task for how it has approached the decision about its stance regarding the Lisbon Treaty? After all, they are simply copying the way their political masters in Fianna Fáil act when any issue that transcends petty parochial politics needs to be addressed.

Fianna Fáil claims it will be ‘actively’ campaigning for a ‘yes’ vote, but you can be sure no party members will be out knocking on doors.

They won’t be doing so because most of them will be unable to explain the finer points of an EU treaty to anyone who is unsure how to vote as party members won’t understand how the treaty fits in with the petty parochial concerns that form the basis of all Fianna Fáil policy decisions.
