Universities’ Irish test is discrimination

I BELIEVE that compulsory Irish for entrance to NUI universities is discrimination.

Universities’ Irish test is discrimination

Only people born on the island of Ireland (32 counties) must pass Irish in order to gain entrance.

Are we not the same as other human beings? It’s fair enough if you wish to study Irish at third level, but 99.9% of courses don’t require fluent, or even any, Irish to study them.

Also the allocation of extra marks to students who take their Leaving Certificate exams through Irish is unfair.

They study the same material as everyone else, yet they can receive more points than a student who got the same percentage but took the exam in English.
