Care failure shames them — and us

LAST Friday night on my way to a function I was among the first to come across the scene of a car accident.

Care failure shames them — and us

When I recounted the story to friends after I eventually reached my destination, I was asked: “How did you have the courage to pull over?” and “How did you know what to do?”

My answer is simple: I have a duty of care to people. Caring is my job, my passion and my vocation.

So shame on you, Mary Harney, for preventing me from caring for people in the best way I can in the institute of care, the hospital, because of budgetary matters.

Shame on you, Bertie Ahern, for causing families and friends of sick people such heartache as their relatives are robbed of their dignity when beds are shoved in anywhere there is space in hospitals.

Shame on you, Prof Drumm, for not having the courage to take responsibility for the disgraceful situation in Portlaoise.

Shame on us for accepting it.
