Abolition of inequitable tax is long overdue

WITH taxation high on the political agenda, one wonders why the infamous DIRT never comes up for mention.

It is grossly unjust and completely obsolete in current circumstances.

What with bank interest rates lower than the rate of inflation, there is nothing much that depositors can do except twiddle their thumbs as they see the value of their investment eroded year-on-year.

Despite this, the Government aggravates matters further by retaining 20% of what little interest people receive.

The abolition of this outmoded, inequitable tax is long overdue.

It is well past its sell-by date.
