Luas gets a red card from soccer fan
Running every six minutes, according to the electronic display, there were literally hundreds of people lining up at the Red Cow stop to buy tickets at a temporary kiosk before joining the queue of hundreds more to get on a tram.
This is where it got dangerous. People were squashed up against windows and doors, and against each other. If there had been an accident I’m sure it would have been disastrous.
At each stop along the way there were dozens of people who couldn’t get on until we reached Heuston station, where again hundreds of people were bypassed.
Going home was worse. We made our way to Connolly station where thousands were lined up, but there was no fleet of trams waiting to take them home.
There was nothing but bedlam, while Luas stewards did their best to marshal queues and defend the indefensible.
I had to run to Heuston to catch a tram. I eventually arrived home at 11.30pm, slightly sore, happy with the result, but once again disgusted at Luas treatment of its customers on a big match day
