Flights of wonder

AER ARANN is promoting “seven wonders” of flying the Dublin-Cork route to win back customers who are rediscovering the train.

Flights of wonder

Recently, I arrived late for one of its flights — 15 minutes before departure — as a connecting flight had been delayed. I was unable to board. I asked to be put on the next flight, five hours later. I was charged a €50 “missed your flight” fee and a €6 credit card fee.

A 12% credit card fee is extortionate. Irish Rail has an hourly service to Dublin, with no credit card fee.

The “eighth wonder” is how Aer Arann can charge this fee while trying to distance itself from airlines which have add-on charges.
