Don’t strike a sour note in Croker

I WAS pleased to be invited by RTÉ to take part in a discussion recently on the merits or otherwise of the singing of God Save The Queen in Croke Park on behalf of the English team on February 24.

As an Englishman I am against the singing of the British national anthem in Croke Park for two reasons — one general, the other particular.

The general reason is that it is not appropriate the British anthem be used on behalf of a single nation (whether England, Scotland or Wales) among the constituent nations of Great Britain.
