Callous attack on company acting in good faith

I WAS shocked and appalled to hear the Taoiseach’s callous off-hand remarks last Friday about a company that came into this country in good faith to provide competition in health insurance for the first time.

Callous attack on company acting in good faith

How could he dismiss the choice 475,000 people have made to take out insurance with BUPA Ireland? How could he ignore the plight of 300 workers who have been told their jobs are at risk coming up to Christmas?

BUPA Ireland doesn’t charge different age groups different prices — it has no issue with community rating. The Taoiseach would want to get his facts right before he makes comments like that.

I have been a Fianna Fáil voter and supporter. I feel there has been an enormous amount done by them over the past number of years which has benefited the whole country.

I feel they played no small part in kicking off our Tiger economy and I am one of its many beneficiaries.

After Friday last, though, they’ve lost a vote here. I hope this is the beginning of the end for this Taoiseach. I’ve lost all faith in him.

I’m afraid I may be biased. I’m one of those 300 BUPA Ireland employees he didn’t even bother to mention last Friday.

Happy Christmas from a disillusioned Tiger cub.
