Unionists should be wary of proposed deal

As part of a very enjoyable holiday in west Cork recently, I bought the Irish newspapers, including the Irish Examiner, and your editorial of October 27 caught my eye.

This consisted of a scathing attack on unionists for not being delighted with what would seem to be considerable financial and other benefits on offer after agreement between the British and Irish governments.

I feel unionists are right to be cautious and, like most British citizens, I would view any policy initiative by our Labour government with profound scepticism. In that context, the overall tone of your remarks was too harsh.
