New buildings are an insult to the sensibilities of city residents

ON a recent visit to my native city of Cork, I was shocked by the desecration of the Victoria Cross area, particularly the appalling yellow block with the great big gaping hole in the middle.

New buildings are an insult to the sensibilities of city residents

I find it hard to believe that the city authorities and planners allowed such a monstrosity to be built on a potentially beautiful riverside site. They have insulted the sensibilities of Cork people in so doing and should be ashamed of themselves. We should be better served by those given the responsibility of protecting the interests of the general public and not just pandering to developers. These and many other developments in Cork compare badly with new buildings in Galway and Limerick which are generally aesthetically pleasing and innovative, as well as being functional.
