AFTER World War II, many occupying Allied soldiers reported that some, otherwise sane, Germans still believed the war had started because Polish border guards had killed a couple of German soldiers.

These Allied soldiers marvelled how anyone could believe that such a minor (and clearly imaginary) incident really had been the cause of the invasion of Poland.

Is the current crisis in Lebanon really about the kidnapped soldiers? How are we to decide?
