A fundraiser has been set up to repatriate the body of a young woman who was murdered in Limerick city back to her native Brazil.

Jady Cristine Pereira Rosa, 33, was found unresponsive after what is believed to be a suspected stabbing at an apartment in the Carlton House complex on Cecil Street at approximately 7.30am on Friday.

Gardaí have launched a murder probe and are actively looking for a man, close to the victim, in connection with the killing.

Last night, a fundraiser was set up by Jady’s loved ones to help with the costs of repatriating her body to São Paulo, and with funeral costs.

A note on the fundraiser page said her life was “tragically cut short” and that they want to support her family and give Jady a “dignified farewell in her home country”.

The results of an autopsy have not been released.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed on Saturday afternoon that a murder investigation had been launched.

“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased,” the statement said.

“The scene remains preserved, and a technical examination is ongoing by the Garda Technical Bureau.

“A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation. An incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on (061) 212400.

Her brother told the Irish Examiner on Friday that the family was struggling to come to terms with her death.

“We are still in shock about what is happening. I never imagined that I would have to go through such an ordeal,” he said.

He said Jady was living the “Brazilian dream of living in Europe”.

“She always helped everyone who was here in Brazil as much as she could. She never spared any effort to make my mother happy,” he said.

“She will be missed forever. Unfortunately, we didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye”.
