Man’s body found near Blackrock Castle in Cork

The man had not been formally identified and efforts were under way to notify his family following the discovery on Friday evening

A man’s body has been found close to Blackrock Castle in Cork.

It is understood the alarm was raised shortly after 7pm on Friday when the body was discovered.

Gardaí and the Coast Guard were involved in the recovery operation.

The man’s body was taken to Cork city mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to take place.

Foul play is not suspected in the man’s death.

The man had not been formally identified as of Saturday, and efforts were under way to notify his family.

He is understood to have been a foreign national.
